Announcing Cancer Immunotherapy Awareness Month

May 07, 2013 | Brian Brewer

What an amazing day! After months of planning and buildup, we've at last made a formal public announcement about Cancer Immunotherapy Awareness Month in June. And what an announcement! It came during the opening bell ceremony at NASDAQ, and from CRI trustee Jim McCann. He's also the CEO of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM® and in that capacity has put his company's resources behind Cancer Research Institute in support of our newest awareness and fundraising initiative.

As Jim gave his opening remarks, he immediately conveyed how he and his company are 100 percent committed to making Cancer Immunotherapy Awareness Month a success. As part of their sponsorship, they will create a special collection of white-themed flower and gift products on their e-commerce sites, and will donate 10 percent of the net proceeds of sales of products in this collection they have called "Fight with White."

Millions of customers of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM® will learn about the work the Cancer Research Institute is doing to save more lives by finding immune-based treatments for cancer.

I had the honor of speaking, too, sharing CRI's vision and excitement over recent advances that herald a true revolution in cancer treatment. What a thrill to stand before the cameras and the people and share the hope our research brings to patients. There was a lot of interest in our work after that announcement.

You can watch a video of the opening ceremony, which begins 1 minute into the video.

After a bunch of high-spirited photo shoots inside the NASDAQ studio and out in Times Square, we thanked Jim again for his graciousness and headed back to CRI's offices downtown, with gift bags in tow. Once there, we set to work notifying the world of Cancer Immunotherapy Awareness Month.

You can read our announcement, which we issued today. It describes everything you want to know about the month, including the featured educational webinars that we'll offer free to the public and Wear White for a Cure day on June 7.

If you want to become part of this important initiative, please register and join us in bringing an end to cancer.
