Dr. Anjana Rao is a professor in the Division of Signaling and Gene Expression and the Pfizer Endowed Chair in Cancer Immunology and Oncology at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Dr. Rao identified important regulators of T cell differentiation at both the genetic and epigenetic level, and showed how they influence subsequent immune responses. She received the 2009 Frederick W. Alt Award and has also been elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Her current research continues to focus on characterizing the molecular mechanisms that underlie signaling activity and gene expression in T cells. In addition to being a member of CRI’s Scientific Advisory Council, Dr. Rao serves on the Postdoctoral Fellowship Review Committee.

The immune system is an ideal model for studying all sorts of biochemical processesdevelopment, the regulation of gene expression, alternative splicing and cellular stress responses, to mention only a few.
