Su primer diagn\u00f3stico de c\u00e1ncer fue en el oto\u00f1o de 1994, y desde entonces ha probado diferentes opciones de tratamientos habituales como quimioterapia, radioterapia, cirug\u00eda, mastectom\u00eda bilateral, extirpaci\u00f3n del ojo e incluso un trasplante de c\u00e9lulas madre. Se somet\u00eda a estos tratamientos entre las remisiones del c\u00e1ncer que se hicieron cada vez m\u00e1s cortas. Tras su \u00faltimo diagn\u00f3stico de linfoma, mediante el navegador de\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/es\/clinical-trials\">ensayos cl\u00ednicos<\/a> se le pregunt\u00f3 a Jami si considerar\u00eda un ensayo de la terapia celular de linfocitos T con receptor quim\u00e9rico para el ant\u00edgeno\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/es\/treatment-types\/adoptive-cell-therapy\">(T-CAR) therapy<\/a>\u00a0para tratar su linfoma. Este\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/what-is-immunotherapy\">m\u00e9todo de tratamiento de inmunoterapia<\/a>\u00a0era tan nuevo que el onc\u00f3logo de Jami ni siquiera hab\u00eda o\u00eddo hablar de \u00e9l hasta ese momento. Jami le escribi\u00f3 a los m\u00e9dicos que dirig\u00edan estos ensayos en todo el pa\u00eds y luego particip\u00f3 en uno en el Hospital General de Massachusetts, en Boston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eficacia de la terapia con linfocitos T-CAR en el linfoma de Jami<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La terapia con linfocitos T-CAR es un m\u00e9todo de tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer que mejora la capacidad natural de los linfocitos T para combatir el c\u00e1ncer. Para Jami sonaba casi como un tratamiento futurista. El tratamiento permiti\u00f3 que su propio organismo fuera el sanador al darle a las c\u00e9lulas una \u00abse\u00f1al de migraci\u00f3n dirigida\u00bb para ayudarles a identificar las c\u00e9lulas cancerosas y a combatirlas adecuadamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Primero, recibi\u00f3 tres d\u00edas de quimioterapia para eliminar sus linfocitos T existentes, \u00abreiniciando\u00bb el sistema inmunitario y dejando espacio para los linfocitos T \u00abrecargados\u00bb que fueron entrenados para combatir mejor el c\u00e1ncer. Jami comenz\u00f3 a sentir los efectos positivos del tratamiento solo tres d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de recibir la primera dosis de sus nuevos linfocitos T-CAR. Durante el ensayo tuvo efectos secundarios, entre ellos fiebre, dolor, presi\u00f3n arterial baja y dolor en la zona del tumor. Ese dolor indicaba que los linfocitos T-CAR hab\u00edan encontrado su marca y estaban luchando contra el linfoma. Jami prefer\u00eda la inmunoterapia a los tratamientos convencionales para el c\u00e1ncer porque sent\u00eda que \u00abestaba trabajando con [su] cuerpo en lugar de contra su cuerpo\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Con su esposo Ian se fueron de Boston tras el primer ciclo de tratamiento exitoso con linfocitos T-CAR. Sin embargo, al a\u00f1o siguiente sufri\u00f3 una reca\u00edda. Decidida a continuar su lucha contra el linfoma, Jami volvi\u00f3 para la segunda ronda del tratamiento con linfocitos T-CAR. Una exploraci\u00f3n PET revel\u00f3 que el linfoma hab\u00eda desaparecido por completo, erradicado por los linfocitos T revitalizados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apoyo a los avances en la investigaci\u00f3n de la inmunoterapia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>El tratamiento de inmunoterapia les ha dado una \u00abnueva vida para volver a empezar\u00bb, y Jami espera con ansias todo lo que le depara a ella y su familia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jami ha tenido que ser persistente en su larga lucha contra el c\u00e1ncer y agradece los esfuerzos del Cancer Research Institute para que la inmunoterapia est\u00e9 disponible para todos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lymphoma\u00a0| 1994 En mis tratamientos contra el c\u00e1ncer he tenido que ser muy perseverante para no darme por vencida.
