{"id":11557,"date":"2022-07-01T20:44:36","date_gmt":"2022-07-02T00:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/event\/instagram-takeover-with-emily-whitehead\/"},"modified":"2022-07-14T15:48:59","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T19:48:59","slug":"instagram-takeover-with-emily-whitehead","status":"publish","type":"cri_events","link":"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/es\/events\/instagram-takeover-with-emily-whitehead","title":{"rendered":"Instagram Takeover with Emily Whitehead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, June 23, 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/stories\/patients\/emily-whitehead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emily Whitehead<\/a>,&nbsp;an acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivor, will take over the Cancer Research Institute Instagram account (@<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cancerresearchinstitute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CancerResearchInstitute<\/a>) and share her journey as the first child to receive CAR T cell therapy&mdash;and now ten years cancer-free.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Emily Whitehead was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in May 2010 when she was five years old. After standard treatments failed, her parents, Tom and Kari,&nbsp;enrolled her in a phase 1&nbsp;clinical trial at Children&rsquo;s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Her T cells were collected, genetically reprogrammed to recognize and attack cancer cells, and infused back into Emily&rsquo;s blood. The treatment worked and Emily recently celebrated her 10th year cancer-free.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; Whitehead family continue to tell their story to educate and inspire other families, through the Whitehead Foundation, their book&nbsp;<em>Praying for Emily: The Faith, Science, and Miracles that
