Irving Family Foundation together with the Mass General Cancer Center are excited to announce the inaugural “Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation Cancer Immunology Symposium” to be held July 20–24, 2020, at the beautiful Beauport Hotel in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The Symposium will bring together 15 accomplished faculty mentors who are excited to share their discoveries and research career experience in cancer immunology with 40 promising young scientists (post-docs, starting PIs, and advanced graduate students).

Nir Hacohen, Ph.D., of The Broad Institute and member of the CRI-CCTG Scientific Leadership Committee, Robert Schreiber, PhD, of Washington University School of Medicine and associate director of the CRI Scientific Advisory Council, and Shannon Turley, PhD, of Genentech and recipient of the 2017 Frederick W. Alt Award for New Discoveries in Immunology, are the symposium directors.

Participation in the symposium will provide an opportunity to develop strong ties with senior faculty mentors, and learn about the different paths to success in cancer immunology research. Participants will learn how excellent science can be advanced by formulating questions, designing and executing studies to address these questions, hiring, mentoring, collaborating, leadership, raising funds, and publishing. Sessions will cover these and other key areas for a successful research career, and include lectures, small discussion/working groups with faculty mentors on specific topics, and review sessions to integrate lessons learned. Participants will also work on updating their research statement to support their next stage of career development.

Starting with their research statement/plan, participants will work on refining research plans and strategy to enable the next stage of their career and beyond. We anticipate that mentor-mentee relationships will be formed during the symposium and maintained for many years after the symposium.

Applicants will be selected by a committee based on the applicant’s research achievements and plans, and recommendations by their mentors. The application deadline is Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Learn more at irvingcancerimmunologysymposium.com.

Date, Time, and Location:

Welcome Dinner – July 20, 2020
Four Seasons Hotel
200 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02116
6:00 PM: Cocktail Reception
7:00 PM: Dinner

Symposium – July 21-24, 2020
Beauport Hotel
55 Commercial St, Gloucester, MA 01930

Symposium Directors:

Nir Hacohen, PhD, of The Broad Institute and member of the CRI-CCTG Scientific Leadership Committee

Robert Schreiber, PhD, of Washington University School of Medicine and associate director of the CRI Scientific Advisory Council

Shannon Turley, PhD, of Genentech and recipient of the 2017 Frederick W.
