Dr. John M. Kirkwood is the director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and the Usher Professor of Medicine in the Division of Dermatology and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. 

Dr. Kirkwood received international acclaim for leading a clinical trial that utilized his pioneering work and provided the first adjuvant therapy for treating melanoma patients at high risk of recurrence. This earned him membership in the Association of American Physicians. Currently, he’s leading several clinical trials of promising cancer vaccines, and also conducts basic research on the changes normal moles undergo as they transform into melanoma with the aim of providing better detection and prevention methods.

In addition to being a member of CRI’s Scientific Advisory Council, Dr. Kirkwood serves on the CLIP Grant Review Committee and is a member of CRI’s global clinical investigator network.
