Two Minutes to Late Night

Brooklyn, NY

Metal Heads Rock to Cure Cancer

In June 2016, Two Minutes to Late Night launched on YouTube as the world’s only heavy metal-themed talk show. After merely seven episodes of sketches, interviews, and musical performances, creators Jordan Olds (who doubles as host Gwarsenio Hall) and Drew Kaufman (also known as Kevin The Sound Guy) made their mark on heavy metal culture. Their characters, notable musical guests, and entertaining covers of classics are beloved by the metal community.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, they created a quarantine cover series to support struggling musicians and provide a musical escape for the community during uncertain times.

In July 2020, they collaborated with some the biggest names in metal to cover “Anthem” by Rush:

  • Claudio Sanchez of Coheed & Cambria
  • Bill Kelliher of Mastodon
  • Les Claypool of Primus
  • Danny Carey of Tool
  • Steve Brodsky of Cave In and Mutoid Man (the house band)

The musical gathering was organized to support the Cancer Research Institute in honor of Neil Peart, the drummer for Rush who passed away from glioblastoma in January 2020. The musicians donated their performance fees and proceeds from sales of the cover on Bandcamp were also donated.

This tribute to Neil did not disappoint Rush fans or the heavy metal community. The video garnered over one million views on YouTube, aided Two Minutes to Late Night in hitting 100,000 subscribers, and generated thousands of dollars for lifesaving cancer immunotherapy research.

Over the past year, Jordan and Drew have continued to raise money and awareness for the Cancer Research Institute.

They organized a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” with Thursday in support of a friend battling testicular cancer as well as our organization.

They also participated in our ninth annual #Immune2Cancer Day, helping spread the word about the lifesaving potential of cancer immunotherapy.
