I am involved in the development of trials to evaluate novel immunotherapies of melanoma and other solid tumors.

Checkpoints immunotherapies that target the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway have been successful against several cancers. However, they don’t work for all patients, so Dr. Zarour, along with John M. Kirkwood, M.D., is evaluating an approach that may be able to complement PD-1 immunotherapy. Specifically, they’re characterizing the TIGIT receptor and analyzing how its activity influences immune cell activity and pro-tumor immunosuppression, as well as how targeting TIGIT might reverse this immunosuppression and enhance the effectiveness of traditional checkpoint immunotherapy approaches.
