New Organizational Structures Required to Translate Basic Science into Clinical Application Says CRI Scientific Director

Voice of America®, the multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government, has published an interview with Lloyd J. Old, M.D., director of the Cancer Research Institute Scientific Advisory Council, on the state of cancer research, its impact on cancer mortality, and promising immune-based therapeutic approaches now in development, including cancer vaccines and antibody therapies. In the interview, Dr. Old, who also directs the CRI/LICR Cancer Vaccine Collaborative, a global initiative to discover and develop the most effective approaches to cancer vaccination, discusses how the Collaborative's organizational structure allows it to circumvent financial and administrative barriers that inhibit or prevent bringing new discoveries into the clinic.
