“Night in White” Winter Charity Event for NYC Young Philanthropists Raises Thousands for Cancer Research Institute
NEW YORK, NY – February 15, 2012 – The Cancer Research Institute (CRI) Young Philanthropists Council hosted the newest in their line-up of evening soirees targeting 20- and 30-somethings with their first “Night in White,” held Feb. 7, 2012, at the beautiful Hudson Terrace in Manhattan. More than 230 attendees enjoyed three hours of open bar, music from DJ Bedlam, and views of the Hudson River during this white-themed event, so designed to celebrate CRI’s mission to conquer all cancers through immunology.
“White represents the spectrum of all of the cancer awareness colors—orange for leukemia, blue for prostate cancer, pink for breast cancer, purple for pancreatic cancer, teal for ovarian cancer, and so on,” said CRI Young Philanthropists Council chair Alexis Feldman. “CRI is advancing new treatments that harness the power of the immune system to fight all of these cancers more safely and effectively.”
“White is also new hope,” said vice chair Marissa Schneider, “and the Cancer Research Institute is committed to giving new hope to cancer patients by funding the science that is leading to immune-based treatment options.”
Most guests donned winter-white clothing and were treated to white-colored top-shelf beverages and an assortment of refreshments, including delicious white butter cream cupcakes from Katzie Guy-Hamilton (of Top Chef Just Desserts), while they socialized and danced into the evening. Attendees also competed for a chance to win two prize packages valued at more than $3,000, including a luxury weekend in NYC and an indulgent spa package.
The Young Philanthropists netted more than $11,000 for the CRI Young Philanthropists Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supporting promising young scientists engaged in cutting-edge cancer immunology research.
