Memorial Day Reflections
May 22, 2014 |
Memorial Day is a time for consideration. We remember the past, honoring our service men and women for their sacrifice; at the same time, we eagerly look toward the future, awaiting exciting plans for the summer. For one day, we both reflect on all that we’ve accomplished and anticipate what’s to come.
At the Cancer Research Institute, we often consider the past when planning for the future. With over 60 years of history backing our research, our Scientific Advisory Council is uniquely positioned to lead the field of cancer immunotherapy into its next phase. This promising treatment has the potential to help cancer patients all over the world, including veterans like John Yaryan. After over 30 years as an Air Force pilot, John was diagnosed with prostate cancer just a few years into his retirement. His cancer had no chance against his fighting spirit and determination, especially when armed with an experimental new immunotherapy. Now, 3 years later, John is back to enjoying retirement and his Memorial Day weekend.
So, this Monday, spend some time considering what we have accomplished as a nation. Text “JOIN” to 80888 to make a $10 contribution to the Cancer Research Institute to remember the service men and women who gave their lives for our country, or honor someone in your life who inspires you to dream for the future on the foundation of your past. On behalf of everyone here at the Cancer Research Institute, have a very happy Memorial Day weekend.
