Our Mission

CRI: A Unique Organization, a Unique Vision

A Mission Unlike Any Other
The Cancer Research Institute is the world’s only non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to the support and coordination of scientific and clinical efforts that will lead to the immunological treatment, control, and prevention of cancer.

A Commitment to Research
Discovery-driven scientific research is the only way we will find more effective, innovative immune-based strategies to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. CRI is a leader in the translation of basic scientific discovery into clinical applications with the potential to have real-life benefit for cancer patients.

Fostering the Field
CRI supports scientists in the fields of immunology and tumor immunology at every stage of their careers, from graduate students to postdoctoral fellows up to heads of major university departments, hospitals, and clinics. CRI funding ensures a continuum of scientific creativity all along the spectrum of experience, providing valuable support to today’s leading researchers while cultivating the next generation of pioneering minds.

Excellence Choosing Excellence
A distinguished international panel of expert scientists including 5 Nobel laureates and 29 members of the National Academy of Sciences guide all of CRI’s funding decisions. Only the most compelling and competitive research projects are selected to receive CRI support. Former CRI grantees have gone on to win the Nobel Prize, head major cancer centers, and make breakthrough discoveries that are saving lives.

Accelerating Discovery Through Collaboration
Through its unparalleled clinical investigation programs like the Cancer Vaccine Collaborative, Cancer Vaccine Consortium, and the Coordinated Cancer Initiatives, CRI convenes and directs international teams of scientists and clinicians who work together more efficiently toward shared goals.

A Tradition of Financial Responsibility
An investment in the Institute goes a long way. With one of the lowest overhead expense ratios among non-profits, CRI’s donors can be certain their gifts will make the most impact. CRI consistently receives high marks from charity watchdog groups, including the American Institute of Philanthropy, Charity Navigator, and the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.

Options, Hope, Survival Now
Cancer vaccines and antibody therapies are giving new hope to cancer patients, extending their lives and keeping them cancer free longer.
